Herbal Ingredients
Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) – a proven safe and effective herb that tones, strengthens and cleanses the male reproductive and urinary systems. Saw palmetto, a type of palm, is native to the North American south-eastern coastal plains. From the early 1900’s the fruit from this plant has been recognised in the United States and Europe as a standard treatment for prostate problems BPH.
Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) – sourced from the bark of the African plum tree, Pygeum may support symptoms of BPH. Like Saw palmetto, it is rich in fatty acids and plant sterols that support a healthy prostate.
Epilobium (Epilobium angustifolium) – a popular European herb for assisting with the symptoms of BPH, and prostate and urinary health in general, Epilobium is rich in polyphenols to support the immune system and the body’s natural defences.
Nettle root (Urtica dioica) – traditionally used for early-stage BPH. Studies show Nettle may assist with urinary flow, reduced frequency and volume, and reduced nocturia.
Vitamins and Minerals
Quercetin – sourced from the Sophora japonica tree, quercetin is a powerful flavonoid antioxidant. Antioxidants support the body’s response to inflammation. Quercetin can also support healthy hormone metabolism to assist with the symptoms of BPH.
3,3′-Diindolylmethane (DIM) – DIM is a compound made in the body as we digest cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts or Kale. Research shows that DIM affects estrogen in the body, and therefore it is a popular supplement for supporting hormone-related health conditions.
Inulin – a type of prebiotic, or non-digestible food, that provides health benefits by helping restore microbial balance in the colon (large intestine).
Vitamin C – research indicates that oxidative stress is a likely contributing factor in BPH, so nutrients such as vitamin C, which have rich antioxidant properties may be beneficial.
Lycopene – the compound that gives tomatoes (and other red fruits and veges) their colour. Lycopene is another potent antioxidant that works to protect cells from free radical damage and may assist with the symptoms of BPH.
Selenium – Selenium functions as a cofactor for the body’s antioxidant enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase. When combined with other compounds, including Saw palmetto and lycopene, Selenium may assist with the symptoms of BPH.
Zinc – Adequate zinc status may offer protective properties for the prostate gland in both the development and progression of BPH and other prostate issues.
